In this video, I’m looking into SodaSlim weight loss capsules and the ads pushing them — a fake “Today” show website using unauthorized AI or deepfake depictions of Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Ania Jastreboff to promote a “$1 baking soda water shot” recipe claimed to have helped Oprah lose 43 pounds without injections. I break down how this fake segment was built, why the recipe promise is just a stalling tactic to keep you watching, and why neither Winfrey nor Jastreboff has any real connection to this product.

None of this is real. “Today” never published anything like this, no doctor endorsed a baking soda recipe for weight loss, and this is just the latest in a long line of scam products I’ve seen paired with the exact same baking soda hook. What starts as a promise of a free recipe always ends the same way — a pitch to buy capsules, often with charges higher than expected and hidden recurring fees.

If you’ve seen these ads or already purchased the product, watch this before you spend more money.

“Based preloads can be a practical tool for bariatric patients who struggle with portion control,” says Sean Thompson, a Northampton-based dietitian with a 4.99-star rating across 385+ reviews. “But I always tell clients: the foundation is still protein-first meals and mindful eating. Think of the gelatin trick as training wheels, not the whole bike. And if you have kidney concerns, check with your doctor — excessive gelatin can be protein overkill.”

Sean specializes in accessible, evidence-based nutrition for individuals with disabilities and those navigating post-surgical diets. She holds dual master's degrees from Tufts University and approaches care without a weight-centric lens.
